There are many different types of architectural textiles in use today, but only a handful of them are used for tensile membrane construction, which is fabricated by a highly elite and small number of specialist contractors like Fabric8. This blog will not compare one architectural fabric to another, but it will inform you about the various varieties available today used best for architectural structures. They are as follows:

FABRIC MATERIALS

ETFE: Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) is giving glass a run for its money these days. ETFE was initially employed as a coating in the aerospace sector and has recently had a surge in architectural uses. ETFE, which is now widely used in roofing and façade construction, originally appeared on the architectural scene through its usage in agricultural buildings and greenhouses.

ETFE's numerous benefits explain why it is increasingly gaining popularity as a forward-thinking alternative to glass. The material has an extraordinary capacity to manage environmental conditions, and its flexible skin operates admirably during natural calamities. It is also long-lasting, recyclable, and capable of achieving remarkable levels of transparency. If that isn't enough, the non-adhesive surface will entice you with its "self-cleaning" property, which means that dirt and debris do not adhere and are easily rinsed away by rain.

ETFE is not just an intriguing answer to today's most pressing construction concerns, but it is also magnificent and luminous – just think of being inside one of these structures.

PVC Coated Polyester: PVC coated polyester is an excellent material for both permanent and temporary tensile fabric constructions. PVC coated polyester is noted for its superior strength, flexibility, translucency, and affordability. UV stabilizers, fire retardant chemicals, and anti-fungicides are all included in the PVC coating that is applied to a polyester base cloth. The structural longevity of PVC coated polyester textiles exceeds 20 years.

PTFE Coated Glass Cloth: DuPont invented PTFE coated glass cloth in the 1960s, and it has been utilized to make tensile fabric structures since the early 1970s. Originally, the material had a 25-year lifetime; however, this has already been exceeded, with current projections ranging between 30 and 50 years. It is now regarded as the greatest grade material for making tensile fabric structures and the ideal choice if you want a long lifespan with minimal maintenance.

One of the most surprising properties of PTFE is that it is actively bleached by UV radiation, making it simple to keep a crisp brilliant white look over the course of decades. This implies that prior to installation, PTFE has an uneven off-white or slightly brown tint due to the manufacturing and production processes. Furthermore, the Teflon coating resists the accumulation of environmental contaminants and is naturally wiped off by rain.

PTFE coated glass cloth is available in a variety of strengths. Thicker textiles often have higher tensile strength but lower light transmission rates, whereas lighter grade fabrics have lower tensile strength but higher daylighting and illumination effects.

MESH - Coated Mesh

Coated Mesh During the manufacturing process, coated mesh is woven to increase tensile strength. This gives architects and builders more design options and alleviates concerns about fabric compatibility. It may be sewn, welded, or bonded together to make a membrane that can be utilized in a variety of climates or weather situations (-30° C to +70° C). It also has partial translucency, which allows for natural light, improved textural appeal, aesthetics, and a wide color range.

HDPE is a mesh material that is made and utilized in a range of applications. This material can be developed and woven for agricultural shading or for construction applications. Shade mesh is available in a wide range of shapes, colors, and shade factors.

According to ASTM E-84, a high-density polyethylene fabric has high tensile strength, biaxial stability under load, UV stability, high UV absorption, and Class A fire resistance. This fabric is especially well suited for dry/hot conditions where sun and hail protection is sought. The membranes made of HDPE are not watertight. Industrial machinery is used to stitch this material into shape. High Density Polyethylene has an average life duration of 10-15 years.

APPLICATIONS

Tensile fabric in architectural design has many uses for excellent weatherproof shade. Those include Event and Sports structures like the following.

Sports Structures

Located at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre in Homebush is the Ken Rosewall Arena. The stadium, which was originally built for the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, has been repurposed  in 2019 becoming an international indoor arena. It is currently the home of both NSW Tennis and  netball in NSW, holding Super Netball home games for the NSW Swifts and Giants Netball teams, in addition to international and national tennis events. Tensile fabric may be used to make stage cladding, banners, and other types of dynamic, fast-paced architecture. Its very nature allows it to be transformed into the most inventive of design requirements, which are frequently linked with concert, festival stages, and events location.

Because the PVC tensile fabric is easily printed on, it may be used to create a distinctive structure as part of the branding for a festival or event.

Nowadays, Fabric Tensile has proven a wide range of applications; it provides comfort by providing shade and sustainable construction in all types of businesses all over the world. Fabric8 ensures that excellent productions of these items are supplied on time to secure long-term support for these types of projects.
